2024 CVBT Annual Conference - "Seventy Square Miles of Hell" Mine Run and the Wilderness Campaign.
The all-inclusive weekend ticket includes an exploration of Payne's Farm, led by Ted Savas, who located and mapped the site with Paul Sacra. Well-known expert, historian and author Greg Mertz will take us on an extended tour of the Western Edge of the Wilderness itself as it had an effect on several overlapping conflicts in 1863 and 1864, both in planning and execution. The the Wilderness itself played a great an obstacle as the armies did to each other.
Saturday night's Annual Meeting and gala banquet, with Keynote Speaker Willian "Jack" Davis, will be held at the University of Mary Washington's Jepson Alumni Center in Fredericksburg, and will include a silent auction of Civil War artwork and items as well as many non-Civil War treats for those interested in other subjects. The weekend concludes with breakfast and a presentation by a keynote to be announced, at Stevenson Ridge on the Spotsylvania battlefield.
On Saturday night, William C. "Jack" Davis, retired Executive Director of the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies and professor of history at Virginia Tech will give a presentation titled "Civil War Mythology Then and Today."
Sundays Brunch, at historic Stevenson Ridge, will feature author Professor Stephen Cushman speaking about his book “The Generals' Civil War - What Their Memoirs Can Teach Us Today”. Stephen Cushman considers Civil War Generals’ memoirs as both historical and literary works, revealing how they remain vital to understanding the interaction of memory, imagination, and the writing of American history.
